THE DEEP pink and purple flowers representing Dorothy House are still visible in Corsham as the town celebrates receiving a gold award in the South West in Bloom competition.

The town has resumed its gold status in the competition after claiming a gold cup in the Pennant category following a year-long break from the competition.

David Martin, chief executive of Corsham Town Council said: "We had a year off and we were winning gold quite frequently but we have gone back in this year and we have managed to keep our gold standard!

"The flowers have been especially good this year. They have all been colour themed for Dorothy House because it is our chairman's chosen charity and because it is their anniversary year. These colours worked really well and they are still looking really good."

The town has also received six In Your Neighbourhood Awards in total, but the winners will be revealed at an event for all participants at the Town Hall on Tuesday, October 8.

Although the town council plays a role in assisting with the competition, Mr Martin has paid tribute to the many volunteers who have given up their time to tend to the flowers in Corsham.

He said: "There are a lot of volunteers and groups involved and this is not the town council winning, it is the town and the people who have put in all their hard work."

The council have not made a decision on their entry into the competition next year and have said they will spend some time reviewing the feedback provided by the judges.
