THOUSANDS of pounds have been raised in Chippenham following the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning in support of Macmillan Cancer Support.

A number of cake-filled events were held throughout the town and surrounding villages, including Manor Farm in Langley Burrell which managed to raise £3,500 through the sale of cakes, biscuit, jams, chutneys a tombola and raffle.

Redland Primary School managed to raise more than £400 and headteacher Hilary Lambert said: “All the cakes were made by our kitchen staff and we had Year 6 pupils acting as waiters and waitresses for the parents and grandparents that came to the school.

“It was lovely, it was like a very busy café atmosphere and our music teacher Pete Williams was playing some background music on the piano.

“It’s the first coffee morning that we have done but it will definitely be something that we will do again.”

Inspire Fitness, located on Union Road, raised more than £850 and are still collecting after holding a raffle alongside their coffee morning at the gym.

Carolyn Gribble, marketing co-ordinator and trainer, said: “We had all sorts of gifts from local businesses such as a free haircut at Angell’s Barber, a meal for two at The Brunel and cakes from Scoff’s Café.

“The support we got was really good.”

Elsewhere, Chippenham Town Council managed to raise £221.68 from its coffee morning while Active Potential Therapy, a sports and health clinic, offered a variety of gluten and wheat free treats and managed to raise £35.

There was also events at Café India on New Road and the Gladstone Road Club on Saturday.
