HE’S gone from being Swindon’s Charlie Brown because of his spikey hair to now being comically called Uncle Fester from the Addams Family after going under the clippers for charity.

And Charlie Lewis, 42, who lives with his wife in North Swindon, has raised hundreds of pounds in the process after he saw his prized hair shaved off this week in aid of Prospect Hospice.

The charity, which is based in Wroughton, is currently caring for his close friend Wayne, which is what spurred Charlie to take on the challenge.

“I said I was doing it for him, he was choked up when I told him,” said the warehouse supervisor for SW Group.

Now thanks to Vince Fruci, who runs MY-T Sharp barbers in Rodbourne Road, Charlie has a brand-new look.

“It is definitely breezy," he added.

"My nickname is Charlie Brown and even my email has spikey hair gel in it so it’s a big change some people have also been calling me Kojak and teasing me.

“I’ve done marathons before for charity but I wanted to do something different so decided on a head shave.”

Initially Charlie hoped to raise £300 but the figure has climbed all the way to £500 thanks to the dozens of donations. He is hoping now he has done the head shave people will be persuaded to donate more.

Charlie also wanted to give something back to the nurses who cared for his wife’s parents and the current ones who work there now.

“I’m so grateful for everything they do,” he said.

“I know a nurse who works there and it is tough mentally and physically.

"It’s very hard work and they do an amazing job.”
