Wiltshire Police have not confirmed what was discovered at the site near Avebury, with examinations into the find ongoing.
RUMOURS of a human skull being found in a field near Avebury have emerged after witnesses noticed a police presence in the area.
A source contacted the Gazette and Herald on Monday saying that rumours were circulating that a human skull had been found in the field near West Kennet.
The source said two police cars were spotted at the scene on Friday, September 2.
A Wiltshire Police spokesman said: “Police are conducting examination of an item which was discovered in a field near Avebury on the evening of Friday, September 2, 2016.
"The item has been sent for analysis and it would not be appropriate for us to release any further detail at this time.”
