I BOYCOTTED the Marlborough Jazz Festival this year, due to the uncertainty about the road closures and the provision of the New Road bandstand.
The road closures have ensured a safe and vibrant atmosphere in the town for many years. Long before the New Road bandstand, there were street entertainers there, as well as the Brewery dray rides.
I also boycott those businesses that have complained about the road closures. Some of whom are fairly recently arrived in the town and others who never complained about the road closure for the Victorian evening because they made a profit from the road closures.
Incidentally, the High Street could be accessed from the St Peter’s Church direction and signs were in place stating business as usual. Why should a greedy few put lives at risk and spoil the atmosphere and vitality of the occasion for the majority?
