ALTHOUGH I am in my eighties and therefore too old to participate in skateboarding, I have believed for some years that a skatepark should have been provided in Chippenham for younger people to really enjoy.

It was a considerable time ago that the initial metallic skatepark had to be swiftly removed from Monkton Park, primarily because of the ridiculous noise it made, and a later proposal for a concrete one, again in Monkton Park, was totally rejected for very good reasons.

I, and many others, totally agreed with the rejection of the later proposal and am more than a little puzzled that yet another proposal for it in Monkton Park is currently being submitted carrying significant extra costs, when clearly other possible locations certainly exist in Chippenham without the high costs and really bad effects resultant from a sitting in Monkton Park.

I cannot understand why the Monkton Park site is being proposed yet again.

I do sincerely hope that this application is rejected again, not because I dislike skateboarding at all, but because I am in great favour of Monkton Park with its existing children’s fun sites and the very good large functions that are held more than a few times a year in the park, all of which would be badly affected by the presence of a skatepark.
