THIS dramatic video shows the moment an electric pylon exploded into flames in the centre of Market Lavington, leaving some properties without power.
The fire happened at 12.10pm on High Street with a fire crew from Devizes and Westbury attending.
Matthew Williams, 43, a resident of Market Lavington for three years and a computer engineer, said: “It sounded like there was a Harley-Davidson outside and my lights started dimming and I know it sounds odd but I thought how can a Harley-Davidson be dimming them?
“I went to see what was going on and saw these sparks across the road.
“I started filming and went back in the house to turn the electric off as I didn’t want anything damaged.
“One guy went under the wires and I tried to shout to him that one had gone down already but he seemed blissfully unaware.
“We haven’t got electric at the moment and they’ve said they’re going to be there most of the night. They’ve only just re-opened the road.
“There are four Southern Electric vehicles here and about ten people working on it.
"One of the engineers was saying there’s a metal box at the top of the pole and something had come into contact with that and the wires and that’s why it kept sparking.
“I think the video speaks for itself.”
A spokesperson for Southern Electric said engineers were aiming to restore power by 7pm.
