A CEILIDH in Neston Village Hall on April 15 raised more than £2,400 to a children's charity thanks to a local resident's fundraising efforts.

Katherine Gilmore, of Neston, decided to organise the event for Children’s Liver Disease Foundation (CLDF) as last year her daughter was diagnosed with a rare liver disease.

Mrs Gilmore said she did not expect the huge amount of support she received from the community and the great success the event turned out to be.

"We wanted to do something for CLDF because last year my daughter, Ottie, who is now 12, was diagnosed with the rare liver disease, Budd Chiari syndrome,” she said.

“Fortunately, she is doing well at the moment but I want to know that they will always be there with support and information for Ottie and other young people like her.

"I thought a Ceilidh would be the kind of thing that people of all ages could join in and enjoy.

"Some friends of ours play in a ceilidh band and very kindly volunteered to give their time. In addition we had great support in the form of raffle prizes and in people coming along on the evening.

"It was, as I had thought great fun for all ages and we were delighted to have raised so much for CLDF.”

CLDF Chief Executive, Alison Taylor, added: “CLDF is the only charity dedicated to fighting all childhood liver diseases. We do this by providing information to healthcare professionals, emotional support to families, funds for vital research and a voice for all affected.

"To do this we rely on community fundraising for the vast majority of our income so we are delighted that Katherine has done this for us and glad to hear it was a fun night for all involved.”
