VOLUNTEERS from around Corsham bandied together ahead of the Queen’s 90th birthday with another litter pick last week.

Approximately 20 helpers collected nearly 30 bags of rubbish to try and make the town’s streets spick and span on April 13, with picks set to continue right up to June.

Corsham resident and organiser of the litter pick Victoria Conrad said: “It went remarkably well. I managed to get 10 people to come and then 20 or so turned up which was great.

"Everyone was really geared up for it and other picks are springing up in Colerne and Sutton Benger too. I am looking forward to the next one already. People have called me and thanked me for organising it.”

The town’s community engagement manager Richard Rogers, who helped co-ordinate the effort as well as providing the helpers with the equipment they needed, was full of praise for the litter pickers.

“I was very impressed with those who turned out to help. They did it with a great community spirit and made what seemed like an arduous task into an enjoyable event,” he said.

“It shows how bad the situation is when the rubbish fills up again just a month after the big clean we did in March but you could see that was not going to phase them.

“What was good to see was that people were keen to make this a regular thing. They took pride in cleaning up their town and showed it can be a lot of fun, surprisingly. What started out as a clean up turned into a social event.”
