A DEVIZES cafe opened five years ago by former actress Rebecca Wood is closed for a major refurbishment but when it re-opens evening service will be on the menu.

Ms Wood, 40, opened the Mayenne Café Bistro in December 2010 and is now set to extend its hours.

She said: "Over the years, there have been an increasing number of requests from our customers to open in the evenings and I feel that now is the right time for us to take this step and am looking forward to expanding the business in this way.

"We shall continue to offer our most popular favorites along with a brand new menu.

"Our dishes are all made on the premises with quality ingredients and often offer something slightly different as we don't adhere to any particular food or cooking style but rather create food which we love to cook and eat."

The bistro now has a drinks licence and Ms Wood is looking forward to the expansion. Work on the revamp is expected to take a number of weeks.

Ms Wood has been pleased with reviews on Trip Advisor where for the past four years she has received a certificate of excellence for the Snuff Street cafe.

She said: "We also hold a Gold Eat Out Eat Well Award and a five star hygiene rating."

She took over the former premises of Food Glorious Food sandwich bar to create her café after deciding on a change of career. Ms Wood, originally from London, appeared on TV series such as Soldier Soldier, Peak Practice and Grange Hill, but her family had been involved in catering.

Originally she considered calling the business Chalk And Cheese but then decided to name it after Devizes' twin town of Mayenne in France.
