I WAS interested to read your recent article in the Gazette & Herald about the mixed reaction to the ‘reburbished’ Sainsbury’s store in Devizes. My view very much mirrors that expressed by the shoppers you quote in the article.
The main problem is the progressive removal of items for sale that they used to sell for years previously, all of them everyday staple items.
Already I have noted nine items I used to buy every week which are no longer available, and which I now have to get from either Morrisons or M&S. Although the shelf stacking and checkout staff are always helpful, the customer service people are useless. They have no answer to my complaints. Their online customer service people are even worse – you just get an arrogant condescending pro-forma reply.
It’s interesting to note too that most of the self-service checkouts are usually empty, with most people (including me) preferring to queue up at a normal checkout. It’s no wonder they are losing money.
