CHILDREN at The Mead and Castle Mead primary schools came together for a tag rugby festival organised by Bath Rugby Foundation in Trowbridge on Thursday (July 9).

The event was organised celebrate the school’s participation in Premiership Rugby’s Something to Chew On programme, which is an interactive project aimed at teaching 7-8 year olds about their own health and wellbeing with a rugby focus.

Pupils from the two Trowbridge schools had an opportunity to play tag rugby and meet the Bath Rugby Junior Membership Club’s leader and mascot Maximus, who signed autographs and took pictures with the children.

The Something to Chew On programme, which is run in association with Public Health England and BT Sport’s The Supporters Club, also looks to educate children about nutrition and the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Sam Phillips, teacher at The Mead Community Primary School, said: “The event was a great experience and an excellent opportunity to introduce the children to playing tag rugby in a local club environment.

“The children had a great afternoon and our entire Year 3 has not only developed a variety of team game skills, but are now far more motivated and certainly inspired by the Tag Rugby experience.”
