POLICE are warning of possible congestion on Wiltshire’s roads tomorrow, Sunday March 8, as they escort a 180 tonne transporter nearly 13ft wide and 117ft long from Warwickshire to Melksham.
The specialised load transporter, carrying a Transformer, is due to leave Studley at 7am and will be escorted by Wiltshire Police from M4 Membury Services Westbound.
It is 3.9 metres (12ft 10ins) wide and 4.75 m (15ft 7ins) high.
A spokesman for Wiltshire Police said: “Due to the size of this transporter it will be slow moving and will have the potential to create congestion.
“Wherever possible disruption will be kept to a minimum but hauliers and motorists are asked to please be patient if they come across this load.
“Whilst travelling on the route listed below it may take up entire carriageways and we ask other motorists to be patient.”
The transporter will come off the M4 at junction 18 and travel South on the A46 and then East on the A420.
It will then go South on the A350, turning right on the A4 to Corsham, then left onto the B3109 and left again onto the A365.
It will pass through Atworth and Shaw before turning left onto Corsham Road and then right into Westlands Lane, Beanacre.
Police advised anyone travelling over this period to catch a flight or meet appointments to allow additional time.
The police officers escorting resources are volunteers on rest days, paid for by the haulier at no cost to the public.
