Outdoor-loving early birds have until midnight on Friday 6th March to take advantage of Wiltshire Wildlife Trust’s discounted entry for the Sarsen Trail and Neolithic Marathon.

Event organiser Derek Gard, said: “Bookings are up on last year, which is fantastic news, but we have room for more. Anyone wishing to take advantage of our early bird discount should book before 6th March.”

The Sarsen Trail – on Sunday 3rd May - is the Trust’s major annual fundraiser and has increased in popularity year-on-year since it was established almost 30 years ago.

The event prides itself on having something for walkers, runners and cyclists. Even dogs are catered for with the chance to run with their owners.

For a leisurely day, there is a variety of walks - from a family stroll of seven miles to the ultra walk of 26 miles. For those who want to pick up the pace, there are the full and half marathons. And cycle enthusiasts have the opportunity to come and explore one of the two bike routes around Salisbury Plain.

Mr Gard said: “The Sarsen Trail is not only the major fundraiser for the Trust, it is the only day of the year when the MOD opens areas of the Plain which are usually closed to the public, for people to walk, run or bike across it.

“We are, as always, very grateful to the MOD for continuing their support for us by allowing us this unique access. The Plain is a special place for wildlife so it is wonderful to be able to enjoy the scenery.”

As is the tradition of the day, the route will start at the stone circle of Avebury and end near the iconic stones of Stonehenge.
