HUNDREDS attended a preview for a new Prospect Hospice charity shop in Marlborough last Monday, ahead of its opening the next day.

Due to great demand, the shop is the second to open in the town’s High Street, with its sister outlet already on the opposite side of the road, and will sell mainly clothes.

Both are raising money for Prospect Hospice as a whole, rather than specifically for the Savernake appeal.

Area manager Donna Rogers said: “We weren’t looking long, as we already have a shop in Marlborough and so were able to keep an eye out.

“Monday went absolutely brilliantly and, due to high interest, we opened to the public on the day earlier than we had expected and had over 300 people through the door.

“The hospice gets so much support from the Marlborough community and we thought a second shop would do well.”

The shop has eight volunteers and two paid staff, although the charity is always keen to recruit more volunteers.

Ms Rogers said the retail team for the charity was looking at sites all the time and was hoping to open three more shops this year, adding to the 18 shops it currently operates.
