FIREFIGHTERS in Marlborough handed over a cheque to Prospect Hospice in aid of the Savernake Appeal after showing off their barbecuing skills at the town's Jazz Festival.

The crew’s family and friends helped out at the bar and barbecue in July, which raised £500 for the charity.

Watch manager Wayne Presley said: “It was a joint decision because a number of the crew’s family and friends have been touched by the hospice.

“Usually a number of smaller charities contact us for funding and this time Prospect came up a lot so we were planning to donate some money to the charity anyway, and when the Savernake Appeal came up, we were happy to donate to it.”

The firefighters have already given some of the money raised over the weekend to Macmillan Cancer Support to help the efforts of crew manager Justin Kimber’s partner Emma Brown, who has been fundraising for the charity since being diagnosed with cancer.
