SCHOOLS across Marlborough are going green for Prospect Hospice to support the Savernake Appeal.

On January 9, schools in the area will combine forces for the joint fundraiser Green Day, when pupils will be encouraged to wear green clothing for the day because of the colour’s association with the hospice.

In return they will each donate £1 to the appeal, which is well on its way to reaching the £75,000 target by the end of March in order for Prospect’s new outpatient centre to open in the summer.

Prospect Hospice community fundraiser Sarah Thompson said: “We are delighted that the schools in Marlborough will be taking part in our Green Day event.

“Since we launched the appeal at the start of October we have been thrilled to see the local community pull together in so many ways to make our vision of the new Outpatient Centre at Savernake Hospital a reality.

“This is a great way for the young generation to play their part for an appeal that has clearly been so well received in the community.

“When I have visited the schools to talk about the appeal and some of the ways in which it can be supported, I have been really struck by the enthusiasm of the pupils and staff there. Our thanks go out to them for their support.”

As well as joining in with the Green Day, St Peter’s School in Marlborough, Chilton Foliat School and St Michael’s School in Aldbourne have already signed up to participate in the charity’s Smarties fundraiser in the coming months.

Youngsters will be raising money for the campaign by filling a Smarties tube with 20p pieces.

Caroline Spindlow, headteacher at St Peter’s, said: “We are very glad to have this opportunity to support the appeal that will bring this much-needed facility to Marlborough.

“When we have spoken at assemblies it becomes clear how many of the families of pupils here have been touched by the care Prospect Hospice provides.”
