Tennis courts at Devizes Leisure Centre are to get a much needed upgrade thanks to a grant of £17,100 from the town council.
Councillors had to decide whether to give the money to the leisure centre or Devizes Sports Club.
Members heard the sports club had already received £68,000 of section 106 money – cash paid by developers when given planning permission for homes or other projects.
The club said that the money had been used for ground improvements and floodlighting but drainage work had been unsuccessful.
The council is advising the sports club to speak to the contractor who did the work.
Committee members voted to give the money to the leisure centre even though some felt Wiltshire Council should pay for the upkeep of the courts.
A report stated that if the court surface wasn’t repaired it would become unsafe to use.
The town council was told Wiltshire Council had no funding for this type of work.
