Young cadets can now find out what a real RAF crewroom feels like thanks to a £2,600 refurbishment project.
The new Air Experience Flight (AEF) facilities at Colerne Airfield include a kitchen, TV, dartboard and table football machine. There is also a computer and a flight simulator.
Sgt Neil Shaw, from Bristol University Air Sqn at 3AEF, said: “We decided to provide a relaxing rest area where cadets can feel inspired by aviation and so applied for a grant from the RAF Charitable Trust.
“We wanted the cadets’ first experience of the RAF to be the best, and we believe that this grant has made ours probably the best AEF facility in the country.”
Sixteen cadets from three regional wings – Dorset & Wiltshire, Bristol & Gloucester and Devon & Somerset – were on hand to try out the facilities at the official opening, which was carried out by Gp Capt Mike Remlinger, Regional Commandant Air Cadets South West region and Alan Smith of the RAF Charitable Trust.
Mr Smith said: “I greatly enjoyed visiting 3AEF at Colerne. I was very impressed with the whole set- up. The RAF Charitable Trust’s money has definitely been well spent.”
