I would like to set the record straight regarding the letter ‘Pleased with work’, November 20, and to state that this was, and never meant to be, a war memorial but is in fact a dedicated maker stone sited by family members in memory of their fallen loved ones.
Because of the misunderstanding as to the origin of the site, the families contested the parish council at their meeting and it was accepted by that it was in fact a dedicated memorial stone site.
As a result a group was set up, and the families have taken ownership and responsibility of the maintenance of the stone and fence.
The picture shows the original fence was drastically neglected by the parish council who were held responsible for it as a war memorial and desperately needed to come back to the families.
I have informed both the parish council and the village hall committee that we intend to restore the site with its original fencing in order to respect the original concept and design and wishes of the families concerned.
