In 1822 a distant relative, William Douse, emigrated to Prince Edward Island, Canada, and worked as an agent for Lord Selkirk.
Around 1831, on the death of one of the family in Devizes, William was left cottages in Hare and Hounds Street.
As it’s before the 1840 census there are no property deeds.
The only lead we have is that William Douse (senior)’s wife was the daughter, Dinah, of Edward and Mary Erwood of Hare and Hounds Street near the Green in Devizes.
Is there is anyone with family records and connections with this street in Devizes? If so, we would be grateful to hear from them.
Richard and Rosemarie Gale (nee) Douse, Millstone House, Bratton, Westbury, BA13 4SX.
