Monitoring of The Flying Monk Ground and Malmesbury Victoria Football Club is set to continue after proposals were passed by Malmesbury town councilors.

Members of the policy and resources committee on Wednesday last week agreed three proposals, including a meeting with the trustees of the football club, which were set out in a report into a number of complaints from residents.

The council has received a number of complaints from residents regarding noise and anti-social behaviour on the Flying Monk Ground in Gloucester Road.

Committee chairman Kim Power said: “From what I have read they [the complaints] are frequent enough to be too frequent for people to put up with.”

Complaints are not the direct result of football games or associated activities. The town council is landlord of the Flying Monk Ground.

The town clerk, along with the chairman of policy and resources, and a Wiltshire councillor, will continue to liaise with Wiltshire Council and the police to investigate the complaints.

Jonathon Davies, treasurer of Malmesbury Victoria Football Club, was at the meeting.

He said: “The football club are a community club and we take these complaints very seriously.

“It’s not an everyday occurrence but, having said that, we need to work more closely with the residents. We do not want to upset anybody.”
