A village cricket club which shot for the stars when setting its target for a clay pigeon event has raised £31,000 for charities including the Gazette’s Give Us A Chance appeal.
Bishops Cannings Cricket Club chairman Ed Davies hoped the shoot might get close to its target of £30,000 but was overwhelmed with the final total.
He said: “It really was beyond my wildest dreams.
"Last year we raised £19,500 and the total for the previous three years was £42,000 so to raise £31,000 in one day is amazing.
“The auction alone raised £17,500.”
The shoot was held at Wellington Barn, Calstone, near Calne and raised cash for Devizes Opportunity Centre, Wiltshire Air Ambulance, Prostate Cancer, Ataxia Uk and Myasthenia Gravis.
