Dozens of trout reared by enthusiastic pupils in Marlborough and Aldbourne were released last week.
The release was the culmination of weeks of hard work for students at St John’s, St Peter’s and St Michael’s in Aldbourne who have been involved in Action for the River Kennet’s Trout in the Classroom project. Pupils from St Michael’s took the fish to the Bourne in Aldbourne to set them free. The St John’s and St Peter’s pupils released theirs into the River Kennet.
Helen Kelly, schools coordinator for ARK said: “It was great. Every trout was safely released and the children had an absolutely brilliant time.
“We have been incredibly impressed with the level of commitment the students have shown in looking after their trout.
“The children have developed a real awareness for the need to maintain and care for the River Kennet so that it continues to provide a rich and welcoming habitat for all types of river wildlife.”
