This week I met a woman in Bath who organises tourist groups to visit towns and cities in the West – this year Exeter is the choice.
However, Devizes was also proposed. It was rejected due to the lack of tourist information and office. Without guidance, much would be missed.
I gave her a shortlist of varied highlights including Caen Hill locks, Wadworth’s Brewery tour, The Shambles and all the antiques shops, the museum and the Old Swan Yard. The latter must be missed by many – all those lovely shops and Italian bakery!
Nearby, there is Avebury and Lacock.
With a little organisation, these groups could be met and pointed in the right directions – Devizes could thus attract hundreds of tourists.
