A 20-year-old Chippenham woman who was seriously injured in a collision on Saturday morning is said by police to still be in a critical condition.

The woman, who was wearing professional running gear and an ipod, was crossing the road at the Bridge Centre roundabout when she was in collision with a silver Citroen C1 at 10.25am.

She was taken by air ambulance to Frenchay Hospital near Bristol. No one else was injured.

Police are appealing for people to come forward if they witnessed the collision.

Traffic was at a standstill around Bath Road, Avenue Le Fleche (A4) and Ivy Lane after the collision.

Road closures were in place for more than three hours while police carried out an investigation. The road blocks were lifted just before 1.45pm.

Police have not made any arrests.
