THE Porter family from Kington Langley were amazed to bump into one of the most famous tennis players in the world.

And ten-year-old Leon Porter was even more astounded when Novak Djokovic handed him the Player of the Year trophy to hold – a cup almost as tall as his five-year-old brother Aiki.

The Serbian tennis star picked up the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) World Tour Player of the Year trophy in 2011 and 2012.

This year it went to current World Number One Rafael Nadal, but not before Leon got to hold it.

The Porter family were in London for a weekend of sightseeing and were standing in line waiting to try out the new Emirates Airline cable car across the River Thames, when they spotted Djokovic stepping out with his trophy.

He saw the boys, who are both pupils at Langley Fitzurse School, and asked if they wanted to hold it.

Dad Dan Porter said: “We could see lots of cameras, and the big cup poking out of the cable car, and when Djokovic stepped out with it we said, Oh my gosh! My eldest was dumbstruck.”

Mum Chiyo Porter, a teaching assistant at Langley Fitzurse Primary School, said: “The kids were so excited, he was lovely.

“My youngest, Aiki, has taken up tennis because of it.

“We watched Wimble-don when he was beaten by [Andy] Murray.

“Leon said it was really heavy. It’s only now he’s realising what he was holding.”

Djokovic was in London for the ATP World Tour Finals tournament at the O2 arena, where he beat Nadal in straight sets in the final on Monday night.
