A fault in the phonelines to Chippenham Hospital has been fixed.
Pregnant women under the care of the hospital’s birthing centre were asked via Twitter and Facebook to contact delivery suites at Bath’s Royal United Hospital or Swindon’s Great Western, who would pass messages to Chippenham midwives by mobile.
But a spokesman for Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust said there were no births from when the IT team identified a fault on Tuesday afternoon, and 11am the following day when it was fixed.
