VIisitors to Corsham High Street will have got a surprise this morning, when they woke to discover the town centre taken over by brightly-coloured woollen decorations.
The secret ‘yarnbombing’ project is the brainchild of Box artist Emma Leith, who has worked for more than two months making pompoms that were strung up overnight from trees and posts in the town.
She said: “I reckon altogether I have probably got about 200 of them, I’ve gone slightly mad with it.”
She has worked with groups at Jamie’s Farm, in Ditteridge and at The Corsham School to produce the decorations, which are launching the Peacock Arts Trail, which aims to celebrate the best of local art in the Corsham region.
Yarn bombing is a fast-growing form of street art which sees knitted covers and decorations appearing overnight on street furniture and statues.
Ms Leith said: “The students were amazing. They picked up the techniques really quickly and threw themselves into the project. It’s been a real labour of love.”
