CHARITY cyclists Andy Trusler and Paul Buckingham forgot their saddle sores and tired legs when an anonymous donor contributed £5,000.

The two men cycled from Devizes to Paris to raise money for the Bag4Sport Foundation and on Friday handed over a cheque for £8,594 to the charity.

It has been a good week for the charity, as last Thursday Mr Trusler was presented with a trophy by Devizes School in recognition of the work it has done with the sports college.

Bag4Sport director Mr Trusler said: “I was delighted by how much money the cycle ride raised. The donation from someone who wants to stay anonymous is absolutely fantastic. We have got lots of plans to raise money and awareness for grass root sport in the next 12 months and this is a tremendous boost.

“I was pleased to be invited to the school’s presentation evening and to receive the partnership award. We supported the Camp Xtra club, which ran in the summer holidays, and have a number of other joint initiatives coming up.”

Two Devizes school pupils, golfer Thomas Edwards and athlete Emily Hutchinson, are finalists in the Stars of Tomorrow competition that the Gazette is running in conjunction with Bag4Sport Foundation.

Several fundraising events are in the pipeline including a cabaret evening at The Bear Hotel on October 12 featuring Elvis impersonator Garry Foley and a santa fun run in Devizes Market Place on December 8.

Some money raised from Devizes Half Marathon on October 20 will also go to the charity.
