Sigur Rós, Belle & Sebastian and Talking Heads’ David Byrne with St Vincent will be headlining at the End of the Road festival on the Wiltshire-Dorset border at the end of this month.

The mainly indie, folk and avant-garde line-up is spread over four stages amid rolling hills at Larmer Tree Gardens, from Friday, August 30 to Sunday, September 1.

From peacocks and parrots to a piano, all sorts can be found in the woods. There is even a working library in there, where books can be returned the following year.

As well as more than 90 acts to choose from, there is a healing retreat, cinema, comedy, croquet and storytelling, plus a diverse array of Wonderlands workshops covering songwriting, circus skills, origami, yoga, animation and African body percussion.

The intimate and independently run End of the Road turned heads from the start, winning Best New Festival at the UK Festival Awards in 2006. It continued to impress, being named Best Small Festival five years later, despite having doubled in capacity to 10,000.

Co-founder Sofia Hagberg said: “This year, we have gone a bit crazy and spent a bigger proportion of our budget on the headliners. But that’s because these amazing artists,  that we have tried to book every year since 2006, all of a sudden were available and wanted to play our festival, so what can you do? It’s a dream come true!”

Ethereal Icelandic post-rock giants Sigur Rós are joined on the bill by Swedish singer-pianist Anna Von Husswolff, German garage punk band King Khan and the Shrines, and Japanese ICHI who plays handmade instruments.

The food is equally international, with Goan fish curries, vegetarian Mexican, paella, oven-baked pizzas, Himalayan dumplings and Slovenian cake on offer, which can be washed down with a choice of local ciders, cocktails, organic wine as well as more than 50 real ales.

Big Green Coach, the music travel company, will be providing a coach shuttle service between Salisbury Railway Station and the festival site, off the A354 between Blandford Forum and Salisbury.

Adult weekend tickets including camping cost £175 and are available from www.endoftheroadfestival.com
