Lights were seen moving across the field between St Mary’s Close and Potterne Cricket Club before the club pavilion in Coxhill Lane was raided last week.
Police have appealed for witnesses to the break-in which took place at about 3am on Wednesday August 14. The burglars caused hundreds of pounds worth of damage but only managed to get away with a small amount of cash from a safe.
Club chairman Fred Kerley said: “There was damage to the lock on the front door when they broke in and they smashed the security lights so they couldn’t be seen. They damaged the stock room door and the wall when they took the safe down.
“The damage caused was significant but we lost no matches as a result. There are CCTV images but they were wearing balaclavas and hoodies. The police are hopeful they might be able to do something with the images, though.”
Inspector Matt Armstrong of Devizes police said: “Lights were seen crossing the field from St Mary’s Close so we have a good idea how they got to the pavilion. If anyone else has any information about the crime we would be grateful to hear from them through the 101 number.”
