The fire service cut free a young man trapped in his car after it crashed into a tree near Leigh Delamere service station on Monday afternoon.

The red Audi was travelling on the Honey Knob Hill road bridge over the M4 when the incident happened at about 5.30pm.

An emergency support unit with specialist cutting equipment was brought in from Chippenham fire station.

Firefighters worked together with paramedics to cut free the man, who had been knocked unconscious.


He was given critical care by the Great Western Air Ambulance, which flew over from Filton near Bristol.


He was taken by road ambulance to Frenchay hospital near Bristol, supported by an air ambulance doctor.
