A popular course on debt prevention is to run again in Chippenham as people say they need tactics to cope with the age of austerity.

Sheldon Road Methodist Church, which has members trained by UK charity Christians Against Poverty (CAP), is planning to run three more free sessions aimed at helping the local community on how best to handle the economic downturn.

Money coach Islay Roberts, who will lead the CAP money course, said: “If you know how to save and budget effectively, it can have a hugely positive impact on the whole family.

“With households feeling the squeeze on their disposable income, we’ve all got to get a bit more savvy about our money to get through these tough times.

“We hope that we can help people, quietly and confidentially, take the guess work out of their situation so they can plan for the future, sort out any problems early and come through unscathed.”

The CAP Money course, which helps to set budgets and challenges people to live without a credit card, has been found to be useful for newly retired people, soon-to-be students, mums dealing with mounting bills, families saving for a wedding and everyone else in between.

The next course takes place at the the Beacon Centre at Sheldon Road Methodist Church, Audley Road, on June 17 at 7.30pm.
