Fans flocked to Sound Knowledge in Marlborough to see home-grown talent Bo Bruce perform songs from her debut album.

Last year Bo, the estranged daughter of the Earl of Cardigan, was runner-up in The Voice and within a week of the BBC talent show ending the 28-year-old had signed a record deal with the Mercury label.

On Friday evening the pop star wowed the crowd at the record shop in Hughenden Yard with a short acoustic set and also signed copies of her album Before I Sleep.

She said: “It was amazing to be back home and quite emotional. It’s been a long time since I’ve been home.

“I was walking round the town and I thought, ‘so much has changed in my life since I was last here. It was quite strange.

“I saw some old faces and the crowd were amazing.

“The set was very short, we did four songs, and afterwards it was nice to do the signing and talk to people.”

An array of producers and co-writers have joined Bo in the making of her album, including Snow Patrol’s Johnny McDaid and Athlete’s Joel Pott and on Sunday it reached number 10 in the album chart.

Bo said: “I thought that because of all the hype it might drop off the chart, so I was so excited when it reached number 10.

“In the midweek chart it reached number six and sometimes when that happens the song just disappears, so I was a bit worried.”

And Bo is set to win over a whole new legion of fans with one of the songs from her album, The Rage That’s In Us All, which features in the new Star Trek film.

She said: “I went to the premiere a few days ago and I was sitting next to Gary Lightbody from Snow Patrol, who I collaborated with on the song, and it was all a bit surreal.

“It’s been a total joy to work with Gary. Not only has he come up with another genius song but he’s gone and got us a slot in a JJ Abrams movie. He is a true hero of mine. I’m totally honoured.”

Bo’s next venture is a UK tour, starting in June. For dates, see www.bo-bruce.com
