MARK Thomas and Richard Herring will be headlining the first Chippenham Comedy Festival, organiser Wil Hodgson has confirmed.

The event will be held at The Three Crowns pub on The Causeway on Friday, June 7, to Sunday, June 9.

Up to 30 acts will be performing over the long weekend as a warm-up for the Edinburgh Fringe.

Comedian and political activist Mark Thomas is known for political stunts on his shows on Channel 4.

Richard Herring has toured with a different stand-up show every year since 2001 and has been described by The Guardian as ‘man’s answer to The Vagina Monologues’.

Other performers will include Chippenham’s own Wil Hodgson, the West Country’s John Robins and London’s metalhead and amateur occultist Andrew O’Neill. His steampunk band, The Men That Will Not Be Blamed For Nothing, will also be performing an acoustic set.

Tickets will be limited to about 60 per show and will only be sold at the regular comedy night. The next is Carly Sandman, to be held at The Three Crowns on May 1. Prices have not yet been released.
