Urgent action must be taken on the surface of the pavement in Albion Place before someone falls and hurts themselves, town councillors were told on Tuesday evening.
The area off Sidmouth Street has been the cause of much concern among councillors and council officers, with buckling paving, tree root damage and excessive tree canopy spread.
Town mayor Kelvin Nash said: “There is the potential here for high cost to do a complete job but there is also a trip hazard and some temporary maintenance work should be done.”
A proposal by Coun Nash to engage a tree specialist to advise the council was approved.
