This ecclectic blend of hip-hop and Kathak sheds a whole new light on contemporary British dance.
A story unfolded through the movement about social barriers based on ethnicity. The performers were 'trapped' in their own spaces on a space marked out with squares but as the piece progressed they found themselves able to move around more freely, and even enter other people's boxes.
For me it was a symbol of modern day Britain, a blend of rich cultures from around the world, drawn seemingly into one.
The movement was edgy and the clever use of spoken word and vocals made way for a very intriguing performance.
The Sonia Sabri Company, the people behind Kathakbox, have come a long way in a short time and this performance bodes well for their future in this field.
