During the first half of their annual Christmas concert on Saturday, Devizes Chamber Choir, with Tim Hutchings on organ, delighted a capacity audience with a compelling performance of Saint Saens' Christmas Oratorio.

It is difficult to understand why this work is not heard more often.

In the second half the choir developed the Nativity theme with a programme of carol arrangements old and new. The large audience thoroughly enjoyed an opportunity to join in and sing. Several arrangements were by Peter Cook, their composer in residence, and the highlight was his arrangement of the Huron Carol with tenor and soprano solos and a flute obligato by Tony Jones.
