A Wiltshire village that was mentioned in the Domesday Book is one of the “poshest” places to live in Britain.
Shalbourne received praise from critics at the Daily Mail for its picturesque surroundings and community spirit.
The Mail’s listing reads: “The first of the Wiltshire villages on the list is Shalbourne, on the North Wessex Downs and just over nine miles south east of Marlborough.
“This village pulsates with posh communal life thanks to, among other things, a cricket club, a tennis club, gardening and environment groups.
“There’s also a twelfth-century church, as well as thatched-roof houses dating back to the Elizabethan era.
“The property prices are similarly grand: over the last year houses in Shelbourne were an overage of £839,971.”

Featured in the Domesday Book, the village is home to a number of historic buildings including the 12th century St Michael and All Angels Church.
