Madam Renard's event, 7.30pm, The Kings Arms, Wood Street, Old Town, Swindon. £10.The Holly, The Ivy and The Mistletoe is a semi-staged secular oratorio by Jessie Thompson based on the tale of Guinevere discovering the magic of forest plants at Yuletide.

Thursday December 20

Jazz on a Christmas Evening, 8:30pm, Town Hall, Malmesbury. Pianist and vocalist Peter Gill presents an evening of festive inspired jazz. With special guest vocalist Joe Martin and a band of top jazz musicians including Kim and Mike Cypher, Wayne Elliott and Mike Croshaw. This will be a night not to be missed.

Friday December 21

Carols for Christmas, 7:30pm, St Leonards Church, Farleigh Hungerford, Bath. With Grenville Jones and members of his Bath Chorus Choir with favourite carols and audience participation. A frantic month of shopping, card-writing, menu planning, coordinating calendars, puzzling over presents, ferrying over-excited children to parties & sitting screaming toddlers on to the lap of a strange bearded man in a red suit at the local garden centre. By December 24th, we need a little reminding of the true spirit of Christmas.
