Don’t call the midwife – this pregnant woman wants a dolphin to support her during the birth of her child.
Presenter Katie Piper will tonight meet spiritual healer Dorina Rosin and her partner Maika Suneagle for new Channel 4 documentary Extraordinary Births.
Dorina, from Hawaii, wants to deliver her first child in the ocean and is planning to have a dolphin as a midwife, in the hope it will help her baby learn to speak “dolphin”.
Speaking about her new series, Katie told The Times: “I found the dolphin people a bit out-there but they seemed so happy and the woman was so relaxed.
“I just thought everybody was wonderful and it was all a bit of an eye-opener.”
Experts have said the couple may putting their baby in danger by giving birth in the sea, not least because they risk attracting Great White Sharks.
But Katie, who welcomed her first child in March 2014, defended the parents’ decision.
She told ITV’s Lorraine: “Dolphins are clever and [Dorina] felt really connected to them. I thought, well it isn’t for me but it’s right for her. You know, happy mum, happy baby!”
Extraordinary Births airs tonight on Channel 4 at 10pm.
