HAVE you ever wished that your favourite starter at one of your favourite restaurants was turned into a main course?

Well, that’s my relationship with TGI Friday’s.

On a lunchtime visit to their Bath branch earlier this month, I was hoping I would find something on their main menu that I enjoy as much as their Jack Daniels sesame chicken strips.

My five-year-old nephew and I took our seats and quenched our thirst with an unlimited Coke (£2.99) and a blue ice slush (£1.50).

Firstly, I browsed the children’s menu to see what my nephew would like. He immediately asked: “Do they have a chicken burger or wrap?” and for £3.49, that was Scott sorted.

On the adult menu there were the timeless American classics such as chicken and ribs, steaks, fajitas and pastas which I glanced over, with nothing jumping out of the page.

And then I saw it. TGI Friday’s have only gone and made my go-to starter of Jack Daniels chicken strips (£12.99) a main meal, now served with crispy fries... hallelujah!

Within seconds of the waitress bringing our drinks and muttering ‘are you ready to order?’, I placed our choices and both Scott and I eagerly awaited their arrival.

It took less than 15 minutes for the food to arrive to our table and we were both very happy.

Scott’s chicken burger was clearly identifiable as a chicken breast, and served with fries, beans and what TGI’s call their Fridays Fingers – a selection of carrot, cucumber and apple sticks.

Like the foodie he is, Scott immediately tucked in, commenting: “This is a proper burger”.

My chicken strips, which were drizzled in their Jack Daniels glaze and topped with toasted sesame seeds and chilli flakes, were served on a bed of red cabbage and lettuce leaves, which really added a great texture to the overall meal.

The chicken itself – coated in breadcrumbs – was moist inside and crispy on the outside, and when paired with the glaze worked perfectly to give a sharp yet smokey flavour.

After clearing both plates, we were far too full to have desserts but would definitely go back and try them.

Our bill came to a total of £20.97.
