Wiltshire libraries to host free energy advice sessions

The activities are part of the Green Libraries Week 2025 celebrations, a national campaign which aims to highlight how libraries can help build a more sustainable future.

The campaign will run from October 27 to November 2, with the theme "Seeds of Change – Make a Difference with Your Library."

This theme celebrates the significant role libraries play in addressing the climate emergency and empowering communities to take positive environmental action.

During the week, Wiltshire libraries across the county will be hosting free energy advice sessions and "eco-themed activities for all ages."

There will also be demonstrations on thermal imaging cameras to help identify heat loss and information on how residents can borrow a camera for free from Wiltshire libraries.

Cllr Mel Jacob, Cabinet Member for Libraries, said: "Wiltshire libraries are at the heart of their communities, and Green Libraries Week is a great opportunity to show how they act as a hub for sustainability and practical action.

"From advice on energy saving to fun activities for children, there’s something for everyone – and it all helps make a difference for our environment."

Several partners, including Warm and Safe Wiltshire and Zero Chippenham, will provide free energy advice sessions and demonstrations on sustainable living, retrofitting, and energy efficiency.

As part of the week, Zero Chippenham will demonstrate thermal imaging cameras, which help identify areas of heat loss in homes.

These cameras are available for free borrowing by library members from Wiltshire’s larger libraries or can be reserved online for collection at any library location.

Wiltshire libraries offer a wide range of free resources and digital services to support reading and learning for all ages.

This includes more than 380,000 books, 10,000 audiobooks, 3,300 e-books, and 6,000 e-magazines available for borrowing.

People can also use the Libby and Solus apps to easily access e-books, audiobooks, and library services on the go.
