St Louis blues guitar hero Mike Zito will be performing at the Long Street Blues Club in Devizes on Saturday.

The award-winning blues-rock guitarist and singer-songwriter will appear the day after the release of his new live double album, Blues For The Southside, songs from which he is expected to play at the club.

Recorded at the Old Rock House in St. Louis, Missouri, and produced by Mike Zito, the album showcases Zito and his band on blistering form, with songs including classics from his earlier albums such as First Class Life, Gone to Texas and Make Blues Not War and his tribute to Chuck Berry, plus Zito’s takes on songs popularized by Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Tampa Red.

The album features Zito’s stellar band of: Matthew Johnson on drums, Lewis Stephens on piano and organ and Doug Byrkit on bass.

Zito, who is now based in Nederland, Texas, said: "Blues for the Southside is a special album for me. I have wanted to do a live blues album playing songs from my catalogue with my current band for a while now.

“I wanted to go back to my old neighbourhood in South St. Louis to make the recording. That's where it all began for me, where I fell in love with music. I knew friends and family would fill the Old Rock House and bring the energy I was looking for in this recording.”
