Bewildering NHS

3:30pm Thursday 19th April 2012

The turnout at the meeting convened by Claire Perry on April 11, suggested that health is a nagging issue in Devizes. However, the evening proved no more satisfactory than previous encounters.

The management hierarchy is bewildering and the allocation of funding confusing to most present.

The chairman of the Wiltshire and BANES Trust did himself no favours by accusing the Devizes people of rejecting the offer of the PCC on Quaker’s Walk. He did us no favours, overseeing the refusal to consider the town’s preferred choice of the former PCT premises at Southgate House, Pans Lane.

And finally our GPs. At the end of the meeting, the finger of fate was pointed at the Devizes surgeries. They apparently hold the key to the future of health services in Devizes but seem, so far, unable to find a way forward.

My colleagues and I on the community area board are all keen to support the initiatives proposed at the meeting to better understand the exact nature of the services looked for in the town.

Nigel Carter, Devizes Guardians.
