Surely if Mr Cleaver (letters, January 19) or any other motorists travel within speed limits the presence of any cameras held by police or a member of a Community Speed Watch team can never be classed as persecution.
No Community Speedwatch sites are authorised and set up with volunteers unless statistics first show there is a problem with speeding traffic, which was the case in Sutton Benger.
We as a community want the safest environment for all our residents and those who travel through the parish. Since operating the Community Speed Watch scheme in Sutton Benger we have seen a marked improvement in how drivers respect our 30mph limits although we have recorded one vehicle at 67mph.
We do not look to persecute any motorists, of which I am one, only encourage them to respect the speed limts in force for the safety of all.
Lance Workman, Sutton Benger Community Speedwatch.
