New skate park should not be hidden away

It was encouraging to see that a skate park in Chippenham, hopefully, will become a reality again. It would be in everyone’s interest to be as open as possible with this proposal and to ensure that the construction meets the criteria which has been approved in other towns where there are residential areas nearby.

Monkton Park is the most suitable site for a skate park. It is an area of public open space in a central, easily accessible position. It will also be relatively easy to monitor and deal with anti-social behaviour when the neighbourhood policing team are based at Wiltshire Council’s Monkton Park offices.

These types of facilities are not something to hide. They are used by skilful young people.

The majority are considerate of each other. It is to be hoped that any undesirable element will be made to feel unwelcome.

Nothing could be better than to see this project properly managed to give a positive result of which the town can be proud.

David Love, Rowden Road, Chippenham.
