Spin success

After 12 months of spin following the successful hostile takeover of the former district councils, the new unitary authority is now positively in control.

We are promised more resilient communities.

Perhaps your readers should look up the definition of resilience in the dictionary.

It means the property of those communities that will enable them to resume their original shape and/or recover quickly from the change.

However, seven of the newly elected councillors failed to turn up to the inaugural meeting of the full council on June 16 to represent their electorates.

We are told that as community leaders they agreed it is vital that they are role models for the actions and behaviours that will reflect the new council Since they are in receipt of over £10,000 a year by way of remuneration for their services, is this an acceptable start to a successful future for the new administration?

Tony Molland, Former county and district councillor, Whistley Road, Potterne.
