VERY recently, there’s been much discussion and letters about the availability of ‘what’s on’ being physically printed in the Gazette & Herald and how having it all online is alienating a large demographic who only read papers. I agree.
However, what I find constantly disheartening is the real lack of local what’s on. Bath and Salisbury have their own large advertising budgets. They don’t need you. There is a plethora of really good local productions, from theatre, to music, to art exhibitions.
If the paper had its finger on the pulse, you only need to look at Facebook to gather a comprehensive list. But what’s worse is the real lack of support in terms of reviewing and celebrating what’s being put on – by talented volunteers let’s not forget.
Some of us get our own reviews done and send them in, is it so hard to print them? I’ve done this on several occasions, both previews and reviews for the productions I do in Devizes and waited with baited breath to see it printed.....it never seems to go further than online, if I’m even that lucky.
We recently had our inaugural concert, with 50 top drawer musicians performing, and it got an online preview, after emailing it in twice before it was acknowledged. I hasten to add, this did not aid ticket sales or excitement about the night.
Come on, get behind us lot who put our hearts and souls into bringing exciting stuff to Wiltshire and give us a helping hand!
